Lisa Barnes

Mrs. Barnes was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she attended Queen of Heaven Catholic School. After graduating from Del Norte High School, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Family Studies from the University of New Mexico, followed by her Master of Arts in Early Childhood Education. She went on to earn her K–12 Special Education license and was recognized as a Highly Effective Level III teacher.

During her years with Albuquerque Public Schools, Mrs. Barnes served in many leadership roles, including Mentor Teacher for new educators, Reading Specialist, IEP Specialist, and Head Teacher during the final 14 years of her tenure. Throughout her career, she has been passionate about helping children grow academically while also building their confidence and love of learning.

One of the most rewarding parts of teaching for Mrs. Barnes has been the lasting relationships she develops with her students. Long after they leave her classroom, many continue to stay in touch with her—even after graduating from high school. These relationships are a special reminder of the lasting impact a teacher can have on a child’s life.

After retiring from Albuquerque Public Schools, Mrs. Barnes felt called to return to the classroom and is thrilled to begin teaching at Annunciation Catholic School. Annunciation holds a very special place in her heart. Both of her children, as well as two nieces, graduated from Annunciation, and today, two of her grandsons attend the school, continuing a cherished family tradition.

Along with maintaining high academic standards, Mrs. Barnes believes strongly in teaching children the importance of being kind, honest, and sincere. She strives to create a classroom where every child feels valued, respected, and encouraged to be their very best. She is known for her fairness, sense of humor, warmth, and genuine care for her students.

Mrs. Barnes has been happily married for 32 years and is the proud mother of two children and grandmother of five. Outside of the classroom, she enjoys spending time with her family and grandchildren, photography, crafting, camping, and cooking.
